The Poppy Project, a pioneer of specialist services for women subjected to sexual trafficking  based in London, is fighting for its life. Run by the Eaves Housing charity, more than 700 women have been assisted since the project started in 2003, 15% of whom are women living with HIV.

The project has lost out on a bid from the Ministry of Justice to the Salvation Army who will ‘gate keep’ the contract worth £6million and will subcontract specialised services. Eaves said the move marked a change in the way government supported care for the victims of trafficking, ‘they were after a bare minimum service not a specialised service.’

The charity helps women with rehabilitation and counselling, offers computer computer skills training and advice on entering the job market. Eaves Housing has helped secure more than 500 years imprisonment in convictions against traffickers.

The project say they need to raise £450,000 by the end of June to continue their work.

I just wanted to say that I have written a poem (in Gaelic, with an English translation) about a notorious case in Barcelona in 1912, entitled "Maybe My Clients Were Monsters...-Enriqueta Marti". Child procurer/killer Enriqueta Marti allegedly told police, "Maybe my clients were monsters, but not me"... she had a point. It's a story about how little changes in humanity.

Is there any information on law enforcement jobs involved in counter-human trafficking/sex slavery?

I just wanna say that I support the group and believe it or not, I'm all for the legalization of prostitution, but it's when the prostitutes become abused or children become part of the human trafficking industry that I put my foot down.
